Software as a service (SaaS, typically pronounced [sæs]) is a model of software deployment over the internet. With SaaS, a provider licenses an application to customers for use as a service on demand, either through a time subscription or a “pay-as-you-go” model. [WikiPedia]
With SaaS model SME’s doesn’t have to much spend on the software which needs high maintenance and importantly they don’t have to worry about maintaining the secure infrastructure.
Cloud computing and SaaS model has enabled very good support for SME’s in India where they can get a very good support directly from vendors without spending much of money.
Majorly most of the SME’s are worried about data security and availability. It’s just that SME’s have to choose the vendors who has SAS type-II data centres and also who have local presence.
There are certain other aspects which SME’s can consider SaaS which we can discuss on next posts.
