12 new engineering colleges getting consent of AICTE

Uncertainty prevails in the total number of seats available for counselling this year, 2010. Apart from existing 454 colleges in the State, 12 new engineering colleges have got the consent of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). TamilNadu Engineering Admissions official said instructions on the number of seats and other details were awaited.

Without including the new colleges and any reduction in seats due to the approval process or other reasons nearly 1.08 lakh seats had earlier been estimated by officials to be available under single window counselling this year.

As per,Dr. Mannar Jawahar, who is also the southern regional chairman, AICTE,
New technical institutions applied for approval this year: 94

Cleared the scrutiny: 63
Cleared by AICTE: 13 institutions (10 engineering colleges, 2 integrated campuses (offering engineering as well as MBA courses) and 1 management studies)

TNEA 2010 counselling for engineering as per schedule

The TamilNadu state government told Madras High Court that counselling for engineering admissions will start as per schedule on June 28. As per the schedule, counselling for sports quota is scheduled for June 28, for vocational candidates between June 29 and July 3, and for differently abled persons on July 4. General counselling for academic candidates would start on July 5.

A batch of writ petitions challenging the new norms of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for engineering colleges seeking renewal of approval. The AICTE submitted that 309 colleges had submitted the applications according to the new regulations. The council would process them. The submission may be recorded and the court may allow the writ petitions filed by colleges, which had complied with the new regulations.

The government counsel said the very fact that 309 colleges had submitted their applications meant that they had accepted the new regulations and could be included in the counselling. On behalf of some individual colleges, it was argued that counselling could be postponed. Counsel for some private colleges said the problem arose mainly because of the AICTE issuing the circular very late.

The court stated that not a single parent should be deprived of his right to select the best available college for his ward.

CHOOSE A COLLEGE OR COURSE - NEED OF ACADEMICS

The heavy focus on the admissions to take up professional courses might raise many questions with an aspiring student. Variety of information and suggestions for various parameters to judge the choice of college or course add dilemma as over informed scenario is equally make situations worse. The prime factor is to judge the individual's aspiration or attitude towards an engineering course and to know more about the course such as subjects being taught, competency of the college offers those courses and of course job market fitness.

Those kinds of information may be completely or rather correctly brought out by the eminent professors, academics related to that area of study. So, as mentioned in the previous article of this series it would be better to understand the individual’s capability interest before choosing a course in a main stream engineering branches such as Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering. The availability of many derived or specialized branches from these main streams make the choice much more visible and clear to fit an individual’s aptitude. Then the choice of college on this basis could make the option more comfortable to have a final decision.

So, students should be aware of their aptitude and discussing with an appropriate academic community to find a better way to choose a college and a course there or a course then a college which offers the course of choice. With more opportunities and more knowledge pool it is important to decide on a right choice of a course or a college to meet the challenges of the future

In the available 29 courses among the self financing engineering colleges in TamilNadu, the accredited courses are comparatively in low proportion.

This condition prevails even in popular courses such as ECE, CSE and etc., though they are slotted in the top places in the accreditation process.

The accreditation process can also be understood over the zone wise segmentation that bring more insight in to the details of quality initiatives
